If you follow my blog, you may have noticed that I’ve been very quiet the last three weeks. I’ve been absolutely flat out editing my manuscript to hand in to Random House. My deadline was mid August and I only just made it. Very pleased with the finally result though and think my readers will be pleased with this one. Lots of humour, power plays, emotion, mystery and suspense and of course, romance.

There was no time to rest after submission however. A few days later, I was a delegate at the Australian Romance Writers Conference in Fremantle. It was wonderful.
There’s nothing like conference to rejuvenate your creative juices just in time for the next book. I attended a variety of workshops, topics ranging from craft to business advice. They all gave me a real feel for the industry and what areas of my writing I could improve. In particular, I’m really looking forward to trying out some of the techniques I learned in Kim Hudson’s workshop, “The Virgin’s Journey,” in my next manuscript. I can give the hint… it will be a city set novella with a Valentine’s theme. I think I’ll go by some chocolate before I start to get me in the mood.

Overall, it was great to catch up with old friends and make new ones too. I loved meeting all the other rural romance authors I have been conversing with online but never met in person. On Saturday, I had lunch with my publisher, Bev Cousins who was also in town for conference. She said she loved, “The Girl in the Yellow Vest,” which is not just great news for my readers but for me as well. It means, not much editing, which is a relief considering I’ve already got a new deadline for my next book.

One of these days I really must book in a holiday. I think this Christmas I’m going to need one.
